Join us in Istanbul and Izmir to deepen your mind/body awareness and increase your own embodiment through the Alexander Technique. Learn a process to discover your full potential, refine your artistry, and bring your whole self to the present moment.

You will be guided by Ann Rodiger and assisted by BAC Faculty.

Summer Alexander Technique Study

We are offering several study options in Istanbul and Izmir

Alexander Technique Principles - 4 Day Intensive

Expand your mind/body awareness through the Alexander Technique with Ann Rodiger and the Balance Arts Center faculty. Each day will be devoted to a different AT Principle helping you to explore your thought and movement habits, overall balance, and sensory awareness. The 4 days will help you establish a new "normal" for your interactions with yourself, the environment, and your art form. Students will receive individualized verbal and hands-on instruction during the intensive you help you embody your learning.

Alexander Technique - Weekend Intensive

Integrate your senses into a unified field of awareness during this 2 day workshop. We will focus on balancing your sensory experiences so that you are available to all of your senses as you integrate your mind and body. Students will receive individualized verbal and hands-on instruction during the intensive you help you embody your learning.

Alexander Technique - Conservatory One Day Workshop

Join us to explore the how of your performing art form.  Your body, posture, and balance are critical to your craft. Learn a process for building awareness so you can discover the choices you have to improve your own technique.  You will leave the workshop with much to explore and implement in your classes, rehearsals, and performances. Actors, dancers, musicians, and singers are all welcome. 

AT Application Workshops - Istanbul

AT for Dancers

Tuesday August 6th, 2024, 18:00-20:00

Explore the small and large movements of the dancer in this workshop. We will look at how to initiate your movements and how to follow through with direction and flow. Bring your technical questions about your head, neck, back, legs, and arm and how to integrate them into the whole. Students will receive individualized verbal and hands-on instruction during the workshop.

AT for Speakers/Singers

Wednesday August 7th, 2024, 18:00-20:00

Vocal production will be our focus for this workshop. We will follow Alexander's own vocal process of understanding the voice in this workshop so you too can learn to attend to your vocal habits and discover more resonance and ease in speaking and singing. Students will receive individualized verbal and hands-on instruction during the workshop.

AT for Instrumentalists

Thursday August 8th, 2024, 18:00-20:00

Bring your instruments to this workshop and we will look at how you support and interact with them during practice and performance. We will look at your own body as part of the instrument and how you expand your awareness to include yourself, your instrument, and the music. Students will receive individualized verbal and hands-on instruction during the workshop.

Conservatory One Day Workshop will be held at Mimar Sinan Güzel Sanatlar Üniversitesi in Istanbul.

Participating Faculty

Ann Rodiger is the Founder and Director of the Balance Arts Center in New York City. She has nearly 40 years of teaching the Alexander Technique. Her teaching draws from her knowledge from teaching the BAC Teacher Training Course and private lessons in the US and abroad as well as her knowledge of Labanotation, Laban Movement Analysis, Bartenieff Fundamentals, Yoga, meditation and various dance techniques. She has developed the BAC Alexander Technique Teacher Training Program and substantial programming for performing artists. She has also adapted the Alexander principles to work for those with hypermobility and Ehlers Danlos Syndromes. Rodiger teaches internationally in Germany, Belgium, Greece, and Turkey. The Balance Arts Center is a NYC Women and Minority Owned Business and a thriving place for the community to teach, share knowledge, and perform.

Alexander Technique Teacher, Movement & Vocal Specialist

Thomas Baird has choreographed for the Metropolitan Opera, performed with the New York Philharmonic and has been a movement consultant for several Broadway productions. He is a dancer and certified teacher of the Alexander Technique, having graduated from the Balance Arts Center in NYC in 2009 under the direction of Ann Rodiger. He has presented workshops at many AT conferences such as the Freedom to Move, Freedom to Play and Sing, and Freedom to Write, and at Franklyn & Marshall College, Ohio Northern University, University of Richmond and in Tokyo, Japan. He teaches AT in the Dance Division at The Juilliard School and the Dance and Music Conservatories at SUNY Purchase College. He assists Ms. Rodiger in the BAC’s Teacher Training program, and has private practices in NYC and Norwalk, CT. In the summer, he teaches the AT to singers at Si Parla, Si Canta, an opera intensive held in the summer in Arona, Italy. 

Tom Baird

Alexander Technique Teacher, Dancer

Lindy Rogers is an Actress, Director and an AmSAT certified Alexander Technique Teacher based out of New York City. She teaches privately and at the Balance Arts Center. She also teaches movement courses at St. Margaret’s House with a focus on balance and mobility. Her special interest is in working with the elder population; especially in relation to walkers and canes as a reference point for getting back to balancing on two legs. Lindy enjoys working with all walks of life in broadening their awareness of themselves and the 3-D world in which they live.
