Immersive Internships at the Balance Arts Center
The BAC is currently accepting interns on a rolling basis for the fall and winter.
Develop your professional skills in NYC while having access to in depth study of the Alexander Technique in group & private lessons as a practice student alongside the BAC Teacher Training Course. The BAC is a fun, interactive, hands-on environment where you will work with arts education programming, administrative skills, production and more! The BAC staff & facility create an environment that facilitates growth and learning and interns receive individual attention while being part of a community surrounded by Alexander students and teachers who are working professionally in a variety of industries including the performing arts.
Internship experiences include:
Assisting in program management & production
Administrative duties working with BAC staff
Becoming an integral part of the BAC daily workings and problem solving.
Space rental & facilities management
Familiarity with specialty room booking and financial software.
Special projects that suit your specific interests
Participation in the Alexander Technique Teacher Training Course
Private lessons with third year trainees
Application of how the Alexander Technique applies to your field of study
Arts Management and Programming are a part of the BAC fabric, as we produce programs as well as host events. The performance space also offers experience in production, front of house, and logistical elements of programming. Interns are often included in planning and administrative meetings. Administration duties including aspects of room bookings, marketing, interactions with the public, etc. providing an opportunity to improve teamwork and communication skills. Facilities Management includes organizing and managing materials in the space as well as making sure the facility continues to function properly.
Alexander Technique Study
If interested, interns may participate in the AT Teacher Training Course in combination with admin work, giving students a balance of practical knowledge and self development. Interns are invited into the 3-hour Alexander Technique Teacher Training Program as practice students when the course is in session, and may serve as practice students for third year trainees as they give private lessons. As their own professional skills develop through the study of the Alexander Technique in a supportive learning environment, they also participate in the inner workings of the Balance Arts Center and experience how such a center functions.

Internships are currently unpaid. We consider your participation in the training course, classes, and private lessons at the BAC part of an equal-value exchange for your work with us.
